It’s mountain day today (done the easy way!) After visiting the hotels exclusive hide in search of one of the Scottish classics the Slavonian Grebe, we head to the mountain tops in search of another iconic bird the Ptarmigan.  After lunch it is off to Eagle country and the possibility of both Golden and White Tailed Eagle.  Add to this Mountain Hare, Red Deer and Feral Goats it really is a brilliant full day in the field.

***All this for only £575 per person!***

Or why not extend your stay?

Today we head over to the beautiful west cost to explore the areas around Gairloch and Poolewe, stunning beaches and sheltered bays,a great area to see Divers in full plumage, dainty wee Twite feeding in the fieldds and massive White Tailed Eagles patrolling near Anthrax Island….

King Eider

King Eider

A new location for Birding Ecosse, and one that actually had a huge impact on me when I was a young Birder, long long before I became a tour guide. The Ythan estuary and Loch Of Strathbeg.

Tthe Ythan is the home of “Elvis” – no not that Elvis, but Elvis the Eider.  The now almost resident King Eider hangs about with his common cousins and can frequently be seen at very close range, a great bird to get onto any list!

Then it is off to the RSPB flagship reserve for North East Scotland, the Loch of Strathbeg.  For most of my life this has been on my birding calendar, it has however never featured on the Birding Ecosse itinerary, that is until now!

Four hides perfectly situated on a fantastic fresh water Loch separated from the North sea by a beautiful dune system it really is a fantastic habitat, and one that many species of bird relish. (Got my first ever Red Breasted Goose here)
