Itinerary for Skye tour 2017
***This tour is now Full***
The beautiful Isle of Skye
The tour will commence on the morning Friday 26 May 2017 and End on the evening of Monday 29 May 2017.
Pick up and drop off timings and locations to be arranged.
Please note that accommodation can be arranged at the Grant Arms hotel, Grantown on Spey, on Thursday 25 May and on Monday 29 May 2017 if required. (Additional Cost would be £70per person per night)
Accommodation on Skye will be at the Uig Hotel, Uig, Isle of Skye, IV31 9YE on a Bed and Breakfast basis.
Lunch will be purchased daily at the local shop and eaten in the field (included in price)
Evening meals will be taken either at the hotel or at local restaurants (not included in price) I have visited some establishments and the Edinbane Inn and the Old School are both very nice and reasonably priced at around £25/£30 per person for two courses. (It was felt that this approach worked best for people as it left them unrestricted to order what they wanted without cost restraints. The bill was then itemised at the end of the meal and each paid their own portion)
A rough outline of events are as follows (may be subject to small changes):
Friday: Travel to Skye, Birding en-route and visiting locations for Red Kite, Slavonian Grebe and if weather allows a high summit (by car) for Ptarmigan. Arrive at Uig hotel approx. 1800, Evening meal then out for Corncrake (will be a late night arriving back around midnight.)
Saturday: Longish lie in. Breakfast at 0800 then Portree by 1000 for first sailing of boat trip on MV Brigadoon in search of White tailed Eagle (included in price). Afternoon birding in the Dunvegan area and Surrounds.
Sunday: Early morning Rise for Corncrake(optional) aiming to set off around 0500 then back to Hotel for Breakfast prior to catching the ferry as a foot passenger to either Lochmaddy or Tarbet (included in price) Evening meal then some early evening birding in the Uig area.
Monday: Early rise again for Corncrake (once again optiona ) back for breakfast, check out from Hotel, and birding en-route home. Visiting the absolutely stunning Sleat Penninsula on Skye.
Cost (excluding Travel to/from pick up points, Accommodation if required Grant Arms on Thursday and Monday, evening meals, drinks ((although I may buy a drink now and againJ)) items of a personal nature and travel insurance) will be £620 per person. (£760 if accommodation required Thu and Mon)
As per normal I will provide hot/cold drinks and snacks/fresh fruit throughout the day.
This year we ended the weekend with 100 species, including fantastic views of White Tailed eagle, Twite, Male King Eider, Whinchat and hundreds of Cuckoos! The Corncrake however remained invisible but highly audible, but I am now holding the exact locations of the birds so I have great hopes of some good views next year!
As stated at the beginning two spaces have already been booked, leaving just a single seat available, however if interest in sufficient to take three clients later on in the season ten I will try and arrange the weekend Friday 28 July to Monday 31 July 2017)
It is a trip not to be missed!
