A Highland Weekend getaway
With Birding Ecosse and The Grant Arms Hotel
Friday 10 November 2017 to Monday 13 November 2017 – FULL
Join Birding Ecosse for weekend at the luxurious Grant Arms Hotel situated in Grantown on Spey, deep in the Scottish Highlands
Arriving on Friday, we will meet in the Hotels “Capercaillie” bar for a short meet and greet over a couple “local brews” prior to enjoying your evening meal in the beautiful dining room.
We head out after breakfast for a day of Mountains (the easy way!), Ancient Caledonian Forests, stunning Valleys and atmospheric Scottish Lochs.
Target birds for the day: Ptarmigan, Red Grouse, Snow bunting, Crested Tit, Golden and White Tailed Eagle.
Our first port of call after breakfast is to a local Black Grouse Lek, listen to the haunting Bubbling cooing call as the male “struts his stuff” in the hope of attracting a mate, we then set out to visit the Southern side of the Moray Firth. Habitats we will visit include River Estuary, Freshwater Loch and a variety of coastal habitats.
Target Birds for today: Black and Red Grouse, Purple Sandpiper, Gannet, Kittiwake.
Give yourself a treat! Enjoy a long lie before you head down for your last breakfast at the Grant Arms. Sit back and enjoy the memories of the past two full days birding in the glorious Scottish Highlands, and start planning your next trip North!
