The Quirang on the beautiful Isle of Skye

The tour will commence on the evening of Thursday 07 June 2018 and End on the morning of Monday 11 June 2017.

Thursday 07 June 2018

The beautiful Grant Arms Hotel – Home of the BWWC

Today your tour starts with Check in at the Magnificent Grant Arms Hotel, meet your guide for an arrival drink in the Hotels Capercaillie Bar before heading though, as a group, for a delicious evening meal.  But remember to get an early night as the tour proper starts tomorrow!

Friday 08 June 2018

Uig Hotel

Your next stop Hotel – The Uig Hotel perched right above Uig Harbour.

We hope you have a great nights sleep as the tour starts today with a 0800 Pick up from the Grant Arms Hotel!

Soon we will be on our way to Skye, Birding through the Highlands as we head for the Uig Hotel, our base for the next two nights.

We will visit local birding hotspots to pick up some highland specialities en-route to Skye, such as the “always good to see” Slavonian Grebe.

Saturday 09 June 2018

Today we have an optional very early rise to try and find the elusive, rare, vocal and frustrating bird that is the Corncrake (if you really don’t like getting up at 0500 then feel free to say “no way!”) We will visit nearby locations listening for the loud “Crex Crex” calls and hopefully catching a glimpse of this beautiful summer migrant, we had fantastic prolonged views in 2017.

Worth getting up at 0500 for!  The elusive Corncrake!

Back to the Hotel for breakfast and a quick refresh then off again for a brilliant day birding on Skye. Dunvegan, Staffin and the Quirang are some of the locations that will be vis1ted.  Success in the past has been jaw droppingly close views of the magnificent Golden Eagle.

A very close up Golden Eagle!

Sunday 10 June 2018

Again an optional early rise for the Corncrake, mornings on Skye can be simply stunning. The Machair type fields filled with wild flowers, the abundance of calling waders and Skylarks must give a snapshot of what the mainland was like in days gone by!

After breakfast it is off to Portree for a boat trip out on the MV Stardust (one of my personal highlights on these Skye tours)

MV Stardust

And the reason we head out on the Stardust?

The flying Barn Door – The White Tailed Eagle!

Back on dry land we start to head back to Grantown on Spey, however not before visiting the fantastic Sleat Peninsula, where we hope to pick up Great Northern and Black Throated Divers, along with the diminutive Twite.

Back on the mainland we will head straight back to Grantown on Spey where you will spend your final night once again back in the stunning Grant Arms Hotel.

Monday 11 June 2018

Treat yourself to a long lie, have a glance through your weekend Bird list and enjoy the memories of the species you have seen, the scenery, great food, brilliant jokes (open to debate 🙂 ) and start to plan your return trip!
