Planned Trips June – September 2017

Welcome to the new “planned trips” mailing from Birding Ecosse, Summer is Upon us at long last, Swifts are screaming around the church spires in Forres, young Starlings can be heard squawking for food and the midges are just beginning to make an appearance!

The trip list below is filling up very quickly and we now only have one space remaining on the September trip to Andalucía, Southern Spain, I’m off to the area for a week with Lynda in June and we will be spending a day at the Mouth of the Guadalhorce River, stay posted for a wee trip report!

So enjoy the great weather, and the summer Migrants, only six weeks and the nights start drawing in again 🙂

Join Birding Ecosse on this full day tour to the fantastic spectacle of Troup Head, Scotland’s only mainland breeding colony of Gannets. Enjoy a gentle walk out to the colony to witness the sights, sounds and smells of a true seabird city. Guillemots, Razorbills and Puffins add to the list for the day with the added possibility of Dolphins.  A truly great day out!

A trip “across the water” to the mystical Black Isle on this full day tour.  Visit the iconic Dolphins spot at Chanonry Point, watch for Terns being harried by Skuas and a variety of sea birds lounging around on the stunning Moray Firth, visit one of the best hides in the Highlands to look for waders and Ducks with a high chance of Osprey feeding in the shallow water, and stop off to watch the beautiful, graceful Red Kites being fed. An all-round top day of bird and wildlife watching

An exciting day ahead as we head over to Ullapool to catch the Ferry across to Stornoway. Witness pelagic birds close up, Manx  and Sooty Shearwaters, Storm Petrels, Skuas and Divers, Puffins and Black Guillemots are all up for grabs.  (please note we do not spend time in Stornoway, it is purely a pelagic trip) Culinary highlight of the trip? Migration time in Southern Spain

Spain in September, beautiful weather, fantastic birds and the stunning scenery make this a trip of a lifetime. This small group trip will take in some of the major birding hotspots that Amazing Andalucía has to offer,  Black Wheatears and Blue Rock Thrush of the high tops, Griffon Vultures circling high in the clear azure blue sky, The scare White Headed Duck in a reserve right next to our hotel, plus a myriad of warders and song birds migrating through will make for a highly entertaining six days.  The use of an experienced local guide/driver ensures we will be in the best possible locations at the ultimate time for connecting with the species.
